Take Action Against Discrimination
The Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment Policy at the University of Arizona prohibits discrimination, including harassment and retaliation, based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or genetic information.
Engage in action to prevent and deter discriminatory conduct and if you become aware of it take action to notify the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE).
How to Make a Referral
Referring students and employees affected by discrimination to OIE is as easy as sending an email. For required reporters, referrals to OIE can be provided in addition to, not in lieu of, the submission of an online report to OIE.
Referral Tips
In person, show empathy and neutrality, provide an OIE brochure and verbally refer the individual to OIE.
Follow up by email, reminding the concerned party that OIE is the University of Arizona campus resource for addressing discriminatory treatment, and provide contact information for OIE: 520-621-9449, equity@arizona.edu and equity.arizona.edu.
Attach brochures to the email.
Copy OIE on the email to the concerned party (which contains a short summary of the concern): equity@arizona.edu.
Call OIE if the alleged conduct must be immediately stopped, presents a continuing concern, and/or you are concerned the affected party will not reach out for assistance.
Save all email correspondence regarding your awareness of the concern and referral. Saving email ensures you have a record of your actions.
