Take Action Against Discrimination

The Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment Policy at the University of Arizona prohibits discrimination, including harassment and retaliation, based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or genetic information.

Engage in action to prevent and deter discriminatory conduct and if you become aware of it take action to notify the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE).

How to Make a Referral

Referring students and employees affected by discrimination to OIE is as easy as sending an email to equity@arizona.edu

Referral Tips: The 3 Rs

Refer

In person, show empathy and neutrality, provide an OIE brochure and verbally refer the individual to OIE.

Follow up by email, reminding the concerned party that OIE is the University of Arizona campus resource for addressing discriminatory treatment, and provide contact information for OIE: 520-621-9449, equity@arizona.edu and equity.arizona.edu.

Attach brochures to the email.

Report

Copy OIE in the same email (which contains a short summary of the concern): equity@email.arizona.edu

Call OIE if the alleged conduct must be immediately stopped, presents a continuing concern, and/or you are concerned the affected party will not reach out for assistance.

Record

Save all email correspondence regarding the incident. Saving email ensures you have a record of your actions

Your Obligation

Anyone complaining about discrimination or harassment in violation of university policy should receive a referral to OIE. Recipients may choose whether to utilize a provided referral and contact OIE, but they are under no obligation to do so.
